The inflow of remittances has seen a robust start to the new year, maintaining a strong upward trend. In the first 10 days of January alone, expatriate Bangladeshis sent home $1.127 billion (112 crore 70 lakh USD). On average, the country received $112.7 million daily during this period.
Bangladesh Bank Spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan confirmed the data on Sunday (January 11).
Surge in Expatriate Income
According to the central bank, remittance inflow has increased significantly compared to the same period last year. During the first 10 days of January last year, the country received $717 million (71 crore 70 lakh USD).
The spokesperson noted that on January 10 alone, expatriates sent $57 million.
Fiscal Year Overview
Arif Hossain Khan further informed that the total remittance inflow for the current fiscal year (from July to January 10) stands at $17.392 billion. This represents a 20% growth compared to the same period in the previous year.
Prior to this, in the recently concluded month of December, the country received $3.226 billion in remittances. This figure marked the highest monthly inflow for the current 2025-2026 fiscal year and the second-highest single-month inflow in the country's history.
